Chevron Fire Truck with Holiday Banner

Chevron El Segundo represents Human Energy©. We believe investing in basic human needs, education and training, and local business development is vitally important to strengthening communities and promoting greater economic and social stability. The commitment of our employees doesn’t stop at our borders. When they’re not at work, you’ll find Chevron’s El Segundo Refinery employees out in the community – sponsoring schools, coaching Little League teams, helping support a local aquarium or contributing to libraries and other precious community resources.

Chevron’s community engagement initiatives aim to contribute to economic growth and the well-being of the communities where we operate, as well as educate the community about our operations. Through contributions, sponsorships, in-kind donations, partnerships, and volunteerism, here are some of the many ways we make a difference in our communities:

humankind

In 2008, Chevron created “Humankind,” a community involvement program for U.S. employees and retirees. In its first two years, employees and the company contributed $48 million to advance the work of nonprofit organizations.

community tour day

Annually host a “Community Tour Day,” providing members of surrounding communities with a first-hand look into the facility’s operations.

  • Since 2002, we have sponsored a Community Advisory Panel (CAP) consisting of refinery representatives and El Segundo and Manhattan Beach residential and business community members. The CAP members serve as liaisons between the refinery and the community.
  • In addition to the “Community Tour Day,”, the refinery also offers arranged tours for schools and community groups throughout the year. For more information about our Tour Program, please contact us at tours@chevron.com or call 310.615.5254.
  • Established the Chevron Hermosa Beach Surf Camp in the late 1990s in conjunction with the City of Hermosa Beach and local surf shops. One of the most popular summer programs, the camp taught over 10,000 kids how to surf, while also learning about the ocean environment, ocean safety, surfing techniques, and identifying safe places to surf.
  • Aid in the generation of long-term economic development by focusing on those most in need of the basic necessities of life and health services, through organizations such as South Bay Family Health Care, C.A.S.E., Torrance Memorial Hospital, Richstone Family Center, Walk with Sally, South Bay Children’s Health Center, Habitat for Humanity, Pediatric Therapy Network, and Union Rescue Mission.
  • Chevron recognizes employee-initiated network groups as part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion. The company’s Employee Networks are conceived and organized by employees to advance community and business interests, as well as support employee development. Members offer unique insight into Chevron’s recruiting efforts, consumer interests, and community outreach.
  • Sponsor area schools’ Red Ribbon Week drug education program, where Chevron employees provide thousands of red ribbons annually to be worn by students attending South Bay community schools as part of a substance abuse prevention program.
  • We support programs, exhibits and performances that make artistic and cultural experiences more visible and accessible to families, such as Time 4 Art, Autry National Center, Beach Cities Symphony Association, Manhattan Beach Community Concerts, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Palos Verdes Art Center.
